PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Dear Members,
The ice is off the lake, spring is here and we’re ready to go. Please put your stickers on your boat before you put it in the water! Unfortunately, we the Board need to be more active in enforcement of the sticker regulations. The last thing we want to do is fine someone so help us out and get those stickers on.
Float Boat Day is April 17. Anyone interested in helping, just show up and be ready to work; the more the merrier.
The Board is still trying to gather enough input from the membership to make an informed decision on whether to take the newsletter to the web site or keep mailing it out as we have. We have only had about 50 members respond to our survey. Please call, write or email the office with your request; mail or web site. Thanks.
We are seeing an increase in animal sightings recently. In the past couple of weeks a larger than normal number of deer, coyote, fox, a bald eagle and a black snake all were sighted at Lake Cable. This just goes to show you Lake Cable is a desirable place to live. We believe the black snake came in on a delivery truck as none have ever been found at Lake Cable.
Fraternally,
Bruce

LCRA Income $350,316 $291,994
LCRA Expenses $191,505 $203,712
LCRA Net Income $158,811 $ 88,282

Total membership has caught up to last year; 391 this year versus 392 last year at this time. We anticipate a total of about 435-440 members. A combination of the dues increase and the new sticker fees has made a positive impact. It like we got through winter in good shape expense wise. Shopping Center maintenance is down 50% because of extra HVAC work done last year.

MANAGER’S REPORT
Depending upon the Health Department’s new regulations I too may change my 30 year opposition to the use of flotation devices for kids in the shallow water at the beach. We will need to write regulations as to size and type of device but it could be fun for the kids.
The boards are back in the spillway and the water will begin to rise as we get rain.
We are considering a Fire Department memorabilia area in the Dunlap Room. I have several old items and Bob Preece has offered some old photos for a small display as it pertains to Lake Cable. It should be a nice addition to our collection.
Steve and Don were busy all winter repairing tables, re-decorating the men’s restroom and other small projects. Now that the weather has turned more spring like they will be working outside.
One of the part time employees we had for the past couple of years, Dave Saunier, recently had a heart attack and is not returning. The rumor is out that I am hard to work for. In the past four years three of my employees had heart attacks; Cindy Sliger, Jim Russell and now Dave. Honestly I only yell at them once a week whether they need it or not.
Our membership is at about the same number as last year for this time. We currently have 391 members. Several of these are new members. We should be ahead but the economy is forcing some not to join. Hopefully, things will turn around and situations will change and they will be able to join in the near future.
The tennis courts are in need of total replacement. We put some expensive repairs into them the past couple of years but the cracks are just too big to repair. We will lock them out for this season. The Board instructed me to inquire about the cost to re-build the existing courts or possible put one on the beach.
Once again this year I will obtain a permit to destroy goose eggs and nests and later in the year we will do a round-up. This is an ongoing project at Lake Cable and most everywhere else. Let me know if you discover a nest.
The Board is still considering the future of the newsletter. It may be necessary to postpone the change to a web based newsletter as many members do not have access to the web or just prefer the newsletter in hard copy. Only 40 people have contacted the office with their preference of a mail versus web newsletter. Please let us know your preference. Call or email the office and give us your opinion. Email to lakecableus@yahoo.com or call the office at 330-499-2698.
We will be mailing boat stickers the first week of April. We stamped the back with the type of boat they go on to help confusion. They are as follows:
Green goes on Pontoon Boats
Yellow goes on Fishing Boats
Red goes on all others; kayaks, paddle boats, sail boats, etc.
Float Boat Day is April 17 – please bring your stickers with you and put them on the boat before launching. It is so much easier to stand next to the boat and put them on as opposed to hang over the side of the boat once in the water. Remember the Board will be cracking down on boats in the water without stickers. The Rules and Regulations permit up to a $25.00 fine for improper numbers. A boat at a dock is considered “in the water.”
Have a Great Month!
Tom
